Protecting your personal information is our top priority.

At Upstate National Bank, protecting your account and personal information is our top priority. We are committed to keeping our customers informed about potential scams targeting our community, so that they can act quickly to protect their information.

Fraud Prevention

One of the most recent scams we have seen involves “spoofing.” Fraudsters are disguising phone numbers, so it looks like calls are coming from our institution or other familiar bank phone numbers. Once on the line, the caller may attempt to gain your trust and request personal information from you, which may include your account number, Social Security number, online banking username and password, debit card PIN or card details, mother’s maiden name, and other important details.

We will never call you and ask you for this information because we already have it securely on file. Scammers have also falsely claimed that they are verifying information for a credit card application through us. Please note that we do not offer consumer credit cards, so be aware of this if someone calls you about a credit card application.

What steps can you take to protect yourself?

  • Hang up right away: If someone calls you and claims to be from Upstate National Bank but asks for your personal details or account information, end the call right away.
  • Verify the Number: If you have a legitimate concern about your account, you should call your local Upstate National Bank branch directly and ask to speak with the Branch Manager. Never redial the number that shows up in your caller ID. Never dial any number provided by an unverified caller.
  • Be Wary: If someone calls you and says there is an urgent problem or threatens to close your account if you don’t provide information immediately, it is a scam. Hang up.
  • Don’t Click Links from Unverified Sources: Be careful about text messages or emails the same way you are cautious about suspicious calls. Do not click on any links they provide. Links or file attachments may contain malware that can infect your device.
  • If You Have Already Shared Information: If you believe you have been a victim of a scam and have already shared personal information, please call our team at Upstate National Bank immediately at 585-454-3450. We are here to help you secure your accounts and prevent unauthorized activity.
